Myself and Lee were installed as first team managers in the summer of 2018, some 10 weeks before the start of the season. Initial concerns were met when he bulk of the previous seasons players left the club along with the departing management.
We set about the task of recruiting and assembling a squad capable of a top 5 finish in order to be eligible for promotion to the league above and in turn sealing the clubs stature as a senior side for the first time in its history.
The season, as expected had highs such as local derby wins and last minute away wins, and lows with early cup exits.
Whilst we maintained a top half position all season, we had lost touch with the leaders and now had our sights firmly set on the all important top 5 and in late March a home win meant our points tally was enough and a top 5 finish was guaranteed, eventually finishing 3rd.
Whilst this initially seemed like the final icing on the cake in terms of promotion it wasn’t to be and some irregularities in the ground grading requirements meant a nail biting appeal process to find out our fate.
This fate was dealt to us via the non league paper and the club could finally breathe a sign of relief as we had indeed been granted promotion to senior football for the first time in our 119 year history.
